Camping in Dharamshala

Camping is an elective outdoor recreational activity. Generally held, participants leave developed areas to spend time outdoors in more natural ones in pursuit of activities providing them enjoyment. To be regarded as “camping” a minimum of one night is spent outdoors, distinguishing it from day-tripping, picnicking, and other similarly short-term recreational activities.

Camping may involve sheltering in the open air, a tent, caravan, motor home, or primitive structure. Luxury may be an element, as in early 20th century African safaris, but including accommodations in fully equipped fixed structures such as high-end sporting camps under the banner of “camping” blurs the line.

Triund Trekking

Triund is base camp for trekkers going to Chamba and Bharmaur. Lush green meadows, views of Dhauladhar range, sunset and panorama of Kangra Valley, Plains of Punjab and Shivalik Range are the unique sights from this place. There is a water scarcity at Triund. Trail is small and easy which can be completed from Dhatramkot also, around 7KM from here takes around 3 hours to reach Triund passes through Galu Devi Temple. First 4 KMs of the trek are a gradual incline walk while the climb gets steeper towards final few KMs up the Triund Ridge.

Kareri Lake Trek

Kareri lake is best known for being a trekking destination in the Dhauladhars. The lake remains frozen from early December to March–April. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti on a hilltop overlooking the lake.. A few gaddi kothis are present on the other side of the lake, an area which is used by the gaddis as a grazing ground for their animals. Kareri Lake serves as a base for trekking further into the Dhauladhar and onward to Chamba and Bharmour via the Minkiani Pass (4250m) and Baleni Pass (3710m).
